Landing in Chiang Mai airport, we will immediately take you to Doi Suthep mountain to visit Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, the most complex and holiest pagoda in Chiang Mai with more than 600 years of history. The pagoda is often rated by renown travel magazines as the top attraction in Chiang Mai. Aside from paying tributes to Buddha at this location, you can also enjoy a panoramic view of Chiang Mai from the top. In the evening, you will taste the famous Khantoke dishes of Northern Thailand at Khantoke Palace while enjoying traditional dance performances. After, you will rest for the night in Chiang Mai.
After breakfast, you will visit Mae Sa Elephant Camp, just under 20 miles away from Chiang Mai. The whole camp is covered by lush green forest in a valley surrounded by small streams and river. This is the home to over 70 trained elephants. Everyday, the elephants bath in the stream and engage in different entertaining activities for the tourists. Also, you will get to enjoy an elephant ride around the camp and the peaceful scenery of Northern Thailand.
In the afternoon, you will explore Lang Baan Tong Luang, a village to showcase Chiang Mai traditional culture, right under Doi Suthep National Park. The village is placed between elevated rice paddies and displays the culture of five different minority tribes (Akha, Lahu, Lisu, Karen and Padaung). After, you will spend the night in Chiang Mai.
In the morning, you will head to Chiang Rai, a city right next to the border of Myanmar and Laos. Along the way, you will witness the natural beauty of Northern Thailand. The first destination is the Golden Triangle Region, the joint of the border of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar and famous for its drug trafficking business from 1970 to 1990. However, the region has become a well-known travel attraction in Thailand nowadays. Next, you travel down the Mekong river to experience the simple lifestyle of the many minority tribes close to the border. Once there, you will visit the Mae Sai Port, where you can see the dynamic market operated by locals selling spectacular handmade products.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Akha Village to learn about the lifestyle and culture of the Akha people. Before returning to Chiang Mai, you will also stop by Karen Ancient Village, famous for their women with long necks supported by bronze rings stacked together, which has attracted many visitors from all over the world. Afterwards, you will spend the night in Chiang Mai.
